We engage youth advisors of community organizations and churches by helping you explore the roles you can play in helping to support students as they strive to get “to and through” college.
We help you understand many of the challenges students face – particularly those faced by students of color, low-income students, and first-generation college students – and also share information about best practices in community programming. We also provide workshops on effective program design, as well as workshops to engage students, parents, and community leaders. In addition to our live events, many of our programs are offered online.
College Prep…for Parents
Even though it takes a village to get children from pre-school to college, members of the village do not always know what to expect with each new school phase. This informative workshop will shatter myths they may have about what college will be like for their children, help them anticipate various phases of the college experience, and engage them in brainstorming strategies for providing support. Consider offering this workshop through your organization or church.
Dig Up Your Talent Youth Program
During this relatable, high-energy workshop, participants will be challenged to explore their talents and strengths with the goal of realizing God’s purpose for their lives. With the “Parable of the Talents” from Matthew 25:14-30 as a backdrop, they will participate in design labs that will help them identify ways to harness their talents and strengths in service to the community and build on these activities to map their journey toward a meaningful career. Bring this workshop to your church today!
High Impact Parent Workshops
This series of collaborative workshops, which can be offered through your organization, will help parents identify their strengths and talents in child rearing and discover how to harness both to challenge and support their children throughout their educational journeys. Parents will explore their own views and experiences related to education and how these impact their parenting styles. In addition, they will learn about trends and best practices in education and participate in design labs that will challenge them to draw on these practices and their own expertise to brainstorm solutions to issues their children face in school.
Jōb to Jŏb
Marginalized students often face roadblocks on their journey toward a promising career. Drawing on the story of Job in the Bible, this workshop will encourage participants to view these challenges from a spiritual perspective and to consider unconventional strategies for moving past the mindsets, habits, and relationships that hold them back. After participating in stimulating design labs, participants will leave with a personal journey map they can begin following right away. Include this workshop as part of your Christian Education curriculum.
Village for Education Program Design Workshop
It takes a village to support our kids from pre-school to college. This highly interactive workshop is designed to help community youth advisors develop programs and activities outside the classroom that encourage student achievement inside the classroom. You will explore your strengths and learn to utilize these strengths to deliver high impact programs that help students realize their own strengths and overcome obstacles along their educational journeys. In addition, you will reflect on trends and best practices and participate in design labs to build on these practices.
